Chapter Twenty-Four

KIRA

Thankfully, her brother was very good at this kind of shit and there was no light showing that it was still broadcasting a signal. The moment they’d tossed him in the back of the car, Adam would have made sure to kill any signal coming from Dante.

“Damien has one too,” he told her. “But a few weeks ago, it stopped working.”

“Does he know about it?” That would help explain how they’d found him at her restaurant.

Kira turned and placed the tracker in one of her steel bowls. It took everything she had not to leave Dante like this to raze vengeance and hellfire on Mortimer for what he’d done.

“No. My father had it installed when they got Damien’s tonsils removed. He was seven. If I’m too close to my brother outside the mansion, it sends an alert to Mortimer and the entire Chaos mansion is under constant surveillance.”

There were a lot of ways to find out what was being said or done if one knew the location two people were in at all times. Mortimer had given Dante his soldiers, as well as Damien.

How many among them were spies?

This was going to make things even more difficult and Kira couldn’t take the risk when there was someone out there just as smart and crafty as she was.

When Damien had entered her restaurant, the signal had died thanks to her brother’s tech, but it hadn’t died before he’d arrived.

Still, it wasn’t working now, right?

Kira looked up at the camera in the corner. “Let him in. I need to take it out.”

The doors unlocked and she grabbed a new suture kit, still not sure she believed Dante.

Pressing gauze to the elder prince, she eyed him, unable to trust that someone who’d flawlessly played such a vulgar role for so long wasn’t playing a different one now. If Dante was desperate to survive, he’d do anything.

“You don’t have to believe me,” he sighed, eyes closing when the door to her interrogation room opened. “It doesn’t matter anyways. If you let me go, Mortimer will just kill me. He’s lost the game. There’s nothing left.”

“Isla wants you alive.” Kira ignored Damien as he crossed the room to stand on the other side of her autopsy table. “Your father wouldn’t kill you.”

“She wants Damien alive more,” Dante argued. “Yet, Mortimer was willing to kill him anyways.”

Which made her wonder…

How did the Lady of Chaos – the spider of the underworld, not know about all this?

“Where is the chip?” Kira started stitching up Dante’s arm, impressed he hadn’t once passed out despite the pain. It wasn’t like she was being gentle either.

Yes, Dante liked pain, but he also seemed used to it which made her wonder what Mortimer had done to him behind closed doors.

“His right hip. Two centimeters beneath the skin. It’s under a few layers of muscle to make sure he wouldn’t feel it.” Dante winced when she tugged on his arm with the sutures, but he refused to open his eyes. “I saw it once when I was digging in my father’s computer.
